Skin Resurfacing
Laser Skin Resurfacing and Skin Tightening
How if works :
3 types of laser are available for skin resurfacing and tightening.
ERBIUM YAG 2940 NM
This fraxel laser treats the superficial and medium depth layers of the skin. The heating effect and minor trauma to the skin results in increased collagen and new skin formation. This results in tighter and more elastic skin, with reduced pigmentation. The down time is generally 2-5 days, with minor darkened “dots” which can be covered with make up. The procedure is relatively painless and most patients do not require any pain relief during the procedure. Generally 2-3 treatments are required.
ERBIUM GLASS 1440 NM
This fraxel laser is used to treat medium to deep layers of the skin and dermis. This results in skin tightening and wrinkle reduction. The down time is generally 1 day – with a moderate appearance of sunburn. 2-3 treatments are required. This laser is quite painful and topical anaesthesia , Nitrous gas or IV medication is used.
CO2 Laser 10400nm
This ultrapulse fraxel laser is used to treat multiple depths and results in much greater skin damage than the above lasers. The down time is 5-7 days and make up is generally unable to hide the effects. Each treatment is equivalent of 2-3 of the Erbium treatments. IV medication or Nitrous gas is used for pain relief.
Effects :
Skin resurfacing can produce a younger looking skin with less wrinkles, tighter skin and reduced blemishes. If can also be used to reduce or remove scarring.
Cost :
This is dependent on the area treated.
Erbium : Whole face – $400-600, half face $200-300. Decolletage $200-500 A minimum of 3 treatments is generally required. CO2 costs are approx double that of Erbium, but less treatments are required.
