Laser Prolaspe Treatment
The laser used is an Erbium Yag 2940nm. This has been widely used for facial skin resurfacing in the last 10-15 years and has been proven to be safe and effective
How it works :
A special laser introducer is inserted into the vagina after the area has been sterilized with an antiseptic. A laser applicator is inserted into the introducer which lasers the front wall of the vagina. A different laser head is then used to laser the rest of the vagina. New collagen growth occurs over 1-3 months resulting in contraction of the vagina and surrounding tissues by 20-30%. This contraction results in the elevation and tightening of the pelvic floor resulting in reduction or elimination of the prolapse.
Who is suitable ?
Women post childbirth who suffer from any degree of uterine, bladder or rectal mucosal prolapse. All grades of prolapse (1-4) have been treated and all patient have improved at least 1 grade, with some improving 2-3 grades.
Does it hurt ?
Most women describe the procedure as a warmth feeling only with occasional sharp sensations. Some pain is experienced when lasering near the vaginal opening and Nitrous gas is used as an effective pain reliever.
Side effects :
Some localised swelling and inflammation can occur. Mild epithelial burns are possible.
Number of treatments required :
For prolapse 4 treatments are recommended.
