Dermapen/Dr Pen
How it works:
The Dermapen tip has 11 needles and 32-48 needles with Dr Pen that move vertically in and out of the skin producing 150 to 1000 holes a second. The depth of needle penetration can be set from 0.25 mm to 2.5mm. Each dermapen tip is sterile and is used only on one patient.
The skin is effectively traumatised by the needle punctures in a similar way to fraxel laser. The areas of damage produce factors for repair and regrowth of the skin.
2-3 treatments are generally advised one month apart for optimal results. Deeper and more extensive scarring may require more treatments
Effects:
Acne scaring, burns scarring, skin rejuvenation, stretch marks, wrinkle reduction and removal, can all be treated with Dermapen or Dr Pen. The resultant effect of increased skin collagen will take some 3-4 months after the procedure to reach its maximal effect.
Side Effects
As there are multiple needle punctures, topical anaesthesia is used and can be combined with intravenous analgesia. There may be a small amount of bleeding from the puncture wounds and the area will look inflamed for 1-4 days. Good skin hygiene post procedure is essential to prevent infection.
Costs :
Whole face – $400-600, Half face $200-300 Scars – dependent on length and width.
